Tilburg is one of the most populous conurbations in the Netherlands. It is very lively as a result of its shopping centres. The town is also famous for its summer festivities. For a long time it was dominated by the textile industry , but today its economy is largely dependant on the chemical, photographic, graphic and paper industries. Tilburg is also a centre for further education. Finally it was the birthplace of Cornelis and Gerardus van Spaendonck , painters of still lifes.
