Urk : Michelin's recommendations
This old island was rejoined to the land by the creation of the north-east polder but it remains a distinct community. Moreover, its insular character and its traditions (Calvinism, traditional costumes) have been preserved. Today it is a small port and is very busy with tourists, yet it has preserved its picturesque appearance. Once specialising in eel fishing, Urk today has the largest fish market in the country.

Near the church on top of the mound, a terrace has an attractive view over the IJsselmeer. Some plaques affixed to the parapet are in memory of the Urk fishermen who have been lost since 1815.
