The church in this small port with modest houses was built on an oval mound. It is surrounded by a cemetery. From the top of the dyke (up a staircase), there is an attractive view over the Waddenzee which, at low tide, appears to be a vast seashore. The islands of Ameland and Schiermonnikoog stand out on the horizon.
