This museum is in an old hotel from 1787 (St-Jacobs Gasthuis). It is a large building preceded by a portico. Its collections mainly involve contemporary art, predominantly Dutch (the Cobra Group, Systematic Art, Pop Art, new figurative art) and the history of the town and archaeology. Its cellars house the National Distilling Museum (Nederlands Gedistilleerd Museum De Gekroonde Brandersketel), whose collections recall the manufacture of Dutch Gin at Schiedam in the 19C.
