24km long and 9km wide, Texel is the biggest of the Wadden’s islands. This “Holland in miniature” has numerous attractions. At its centre is Den Burg, its capital and to the west is De Koog, a modern seaside resort on the main beach. Oudeschild is a little fishing port and marina, and there are picturesque villages (Oosterend, De Waal et Den Hoorn). Bird life is prominent with over 300 species recorded here.
