Finished in 1965, this bridge links Zierrikzee to the former island of Noord-Beveland. Since 1987, this busy road route has been doubled by the barrage of eastern Escaut. An impressive achievement, the bridge has 50 arches spread over 5,022 m. The height under the roadway being around 17m at average water levels, a bascule bridge located near Schouwen-Duiveland provides a channel for high-masted boats.
