Topped by two pointed bell towers, the cathedral's long Neoclassical façade graces the northern side of the plaza de Armas. Originally built in 1656, it collapsed and was rebuilt three times and the building's current aspect dates from 1842. The towers, demolished by a quake in 2001, were rebuilt in 2002. On entering by the side nave, you will see a vast, austere interior with relatively cosmopolitan furniture: Byzantine chandelier, ornately carved French pulpit, Spanish Churrigueresque master altar and Italian marble columns.
