The lively and prosperous town of Chiclayo is well set on the path to become one of the country's major cities. Despite a pleasant semi-tropical climate (24°C on average), the town is of no particular interest to tourists, with the exception of its huge market known for its magical miracle potions. It is, however, surrounded by a number of appealing spots, such as Lambayeque, with magnificent beaches and a rich archaeological legacy, passed down from the ancient Mochica, Lambayeque and Chimú civilisations.
