It is difficult not to be overpowered by the highly Baroque cathedral of Cuzco (16C). Everything, from the immense façade and its sculptures to the interior, embodies the desire of Christianity to spell out its triumph over Incan beliefs. Composed of three elements, you first go through the sober Templo de la Sagrada Familia (18C), into the basilica (no less than 400m²), finally reaching the triumphal church (iglesia del Triunfo). Both churches compete to outdo each other in terms of ornamentation, sculpture, sacred relics while works by the Cuzco School add an Indian flavour.
