Behind the Renaissance portal of the templo y convento de La Merced (17C) resides a lovely church adorned with works by masters such as Rubens, Zurbarán, etc, but above all stunning cloisters, in the centre of which plays a fountain surrounded by greenery. The Mudejar-style ceilings of the galleries are perfectly suited to the paintings of Ignacio Chacón, offering a fine prelude to the works by the Cuzco School exhibited upstairs. Before leaving, take a look at the religious museum and admire the immense monstrance.
