The two lakes of Llanganuco lagoon, in the heart of the Cordillera Blanca, are one of the spectacular natural sights of the Callejón de Huaylas. The inferior lake (Chinancocha) is much bigger and deeper than the smaller superior lake (Orconcocha), which is in fact only 5m higher. Deeply wedged in between the Huascarán and Huandoy, whose glaciers can be seen to the right and left, both lakes are stunningly beautiful and their emerald colour changes in hue as the sun moves overhead.
