Jauja : Michelin's recommendations

Jauja boasts a long history. Capital of Peru for a brief moment in the 16C, many civilisations lived here, as the Huanca and Inca vestiges in the surrounding hills bear witness (the Archaeological museum also contains some fine Huari monoliths). Its strategic location in a wide valley surrounded by mountains also made it the theatre of many battles when the Spanish settled in Peru.
