At the end of the 1980s, following the arrest of tomb looters, research began at Huaca de Sipán, unveiling the burial place of a Mochica nobleman surrounded by his family. The treasures unearthed, a magnificent sceptre, gold jewellery, weapons, statuettes and ceramics, give a glimpse of the ingenuity and craftsmanship of this people. The Museo Tumbas Reales of Sipán, a striking red pyramid structure, is home to these objects and a reconstitution of the tomb, all of which with information about the excavations.
