Levanto
: Michelin's recommendations
The current village of Levanto stands on the original site of the first Spanish foundation of Chachapoyas (1538). The site enjoyed a strategic location on the great Inca Trail. In the village, which possesses one of Peru's oldest colonial churches, you can see several old houses built with salvaged stone. The stone comes from the Yalape site, where several circular constructions typical of Chacapoyas architecture and adorned with geometrical friezes stand.
