Lima
: Michelin's recommendations
Almost one-third of Peru's population lives in Lima, the Peruvian capital that stretches between the Andes cordillera and the Pacific coast. Founded by the Spanish in the 16C, the city has a number of well-preserved examples of colonial architecture, together with a turn-of-the-20C urban layout, modern buildings and huge sprawling shantytowns on the outskirts. Some major Pre-Hispanic vestiges were discovered in the 20C and can be admired around the town or in the Museo nacional. It is well worth taking your time to discover and explore Lima properly.
