Few edifices have withstood the various earthquakes that have shaken the city over the centuries, as well as the church and convent of San Francisco, masterpieces of the colonial era, built in the late 16C. You will be amazed by the intricate carving of the church's stone façade and by its Mudejar-style interior and the azulejos tiling in the main cloister. Evocative of two very different registers, admire the church's superb library and its period manuscripts, together with the impressive catacombs, discovered in the 20C.
