Cerro Sechín
Cerro Sechín
: Michelin's recommendations
In 1937 on the slopes of a rocky hillside called Cerro Sechín, archaeologist Julio C. Tello discovered the ruins of a temple dating from the Formative period (1000BC). The outer walls of all four sides of its enclosure are adorned with flat monoliths on which are deeply engraved figures. They depict a life-size parade of victorious warriors, some of whom are carrying human remains: legs, arms, entrails and a large quantity of severed heads whose expressions are one of terror.
