Fortress of Kuélap Highly Recommended Highly Recommended Highly Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

At the summit of a rocky outcrop stands the exceptional fort of Kuélap (600m long), at the top of which you can enjoy a superb view of the Cordillera Central. Built by the Cachas Indians (also called Cahchapoyas), it was home to some 400 extremely well protected cylindrical habitations. To get past the thick walls, you had to go through one of three corridors, so narrow that only one person could get through at a time, and then make sure you didn't fall into a deep pit, which was almost impossible for the uninitiated.
