Intihuatana, literally "hitching post of the sun", is the citadel's largest structure. From this astronomical observatory, made up of a perfectly polished stone table from which a spur protrudes that serves as a focal point (carved out of a single block), the priests observed the stars and the path of the sun in order to draw up a calendar of farming tasks. Below, the eye is drawn to the central square where festivals and ceremonies were held.
