Only the town hall survived the ravages of the Second World War. Note the monument to the defenders of the Polish post, erected in 1979 to commemorate postal workers killed resisisting the German invasion of 1 September 1939. Behind St Catherine (undergoing restoration) is the modern church of St Brigit, used by Solidarity during the strikes of the 1980s. Above the Radaune canal rises the silhouette of the great mill, in service until 1945. Rebuilt in 1962, it now houses a commercial gallery.
