Built in the 17C by the son of the architect who designed the Upper Gate (Brama Wyzynna), Golden Gate consists of a triumphal arch with two tiers of columns and a balustrade topped with allegorical statues representing Peace, Liberty, Glory and Fortune. It marks the beginning of the Royal Way (Ulica Dluga and Dlugi Tarf), that extends all the way to the quays beside the River Motlawa. In bygone days, the King of Poland would parade down the Royal Way on his yearly visit to town.
