At the very centre of the city, the market place is surrounded by Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque houses, most of which were badly damaged in 1945 but superbly restored after the war. In warm pastel hues, some of the façades are embellished by paintings (nos58, 66 and 73). At nos78-79 stands the 18C Dzialynski palace, its pedimented façade surmounted by sculptures and topped by a pelican stretching its wings. In fine weather, the square is taken up by wooden terracing and parasols.
