Located in the Renaissance castle of Sanok on the site of an ancient Rusyn fortress, the museum has a collection of icons almost unparalled in Poland displayed over several floors. Over 300 examples give visitors a clear idea of how icons were produced fom the 15C to the 18C, and help to explain their artistic and liturgical significance in eastern Catholicism. The top floor is devoted to world-famous Sanok-born artist Zdzislaw Beksinski, assassinated in Warsaw in 2005.
