To the South of the Theatre Square, we find the Grand Theatre, an impressive neo-Classical structure built between 1825 and 1833 by architect Antonio Corazzi. Its designers envisaged it as the biggest in Europe. Largely destroyed and burned down during the Second World War, all that remains in its original form today is the double-fronted façade with its colonnades. It contains two stages for dramatic art as well as a vast opera hall capable of holding almost two thousand people.
