Almeida : Michelin's recommendations

Situated less than 10 km from the border, the small quiet town of Almeida and its walls crown a hill 763m high. Having been captured by the Spanish in 1762, then by the French troops of Masséna in 1810, it has preserved intact its double fortification system in a six point star in the pure Vauban style which was completed in the 18C. There you will find the old barracks and some beautiful individual hotels some of which are dressed with azulejos.
