The granite bridge was built over the Tâmega river in the late 18C. A marble plaque on one of the obelisks guarding the bridge entrance on the left bank recalls the victorious resistance, on the 2nd May 1809, of General Silveirea, the future count of Amarante when confronted with Napoleon's troops led by General Loison.
