The old buildings which are set about a 16C granite fountain give a medieval feel to this square. In the south, the Palace of Pitas (15C) is a Gothic building whose façade, covered in coats-of-arms, boasts accoladed windows. The meeting room in the town-hall has a lovely coffered ceiling. In the north, the Clock tower (Torre do Relogio) is a relic of the fortifications (14C.).
