Chaves : Michelin's recommendations

Situated in the arid province of the Tras-os-Montes, Chaves occupies a privileged position beside the Tãmega, in the centre of a particularly fertile rift valley. The town has a certain cachet with its keep around which are huddled picturesque white houses with encorbelled balconies. Today it is a quiet spa resort, also well known for its excellent smoked ham (presunto).
