On arriving from the south, you find the old town perched on the hill above the modern white town. It is a pleasant town surrounded by Vauban ramparts and dominated by a medieval castle and is also an important pottery centre whose fame goes back to the 16C. On Saturday mornings, in the main square (Rossio) you will see many pottery stalls... The town is equally famous for its naïve earthenware figurines in lively colours.
