The palace of the dukes of Cadaval, whose facade was rebuilt in the 17C, was gifted by King João I to his counsellor Martim Alfonso de Melo, mayor of Evora. Kings João III and João V resided there. The north tower was part of the high medieval walls of the town's centre. In the art gallery of the dukes of Cadaval, you can see historical documents on the ducal family, and two Flemish bronze tombstones from the late 15C.
