This 18C residence belonged in the 19C to the physician Frederico de Freitas and is now divided into two parts. The casa da Calçada houses a permanent exhibition of prints, drawings and watercolours depicting Madeira over the centuries. Its prosperous 19C interior is richly decorated: English furniture, elaborate wardrobes and cabinets (ivory decoration) etc. There is a fine collection of religious art. The Casa dos Azulejos has a fine collection of 12C-19C azulejos from various sources.
