After pasing the church of São Martinho, there is a fine view from Pico dos Barcelos over Funchal, Santo António and São Martinho. By the River Socorridos, there is a good view of its gorge. Then the route heads into the valley (fine panorama of its steep terraced slopes). From the Eira do Serrado viewpoint, look out over Curral das Freiras, sited in a volcanic bowl. Head back down to the village on the track (through two tunnels). On the way out of the village, there is a good view over the peaks.
