Penha is located at the summit of the Serra Santa Catarina. The cable cars pass over a forest of pine, mimosa and eucalyptus trees. Then, as you go up, the vegetation turns into enormous blocks of granite, which have been polished by erosion. The descent offers a beautiful view over the surrounding countryside. You have to travel as far as the statue of St Catherine to have a panoramic view over the Serra do Morão to the south, Guiramarães and the Serra do Gerês to the north.
