This is a church-fortress from the Gothic period. Built of granite, the spare interior has harmonious proportions. Notice the pillars : they have historiated capitals showing scenes from the Bible. Several hospitallers have been buried here. You can see the tomb of the judge Frei Cristovao de Cernache, topped with a painted statue from the 16C. The Baptismal fonts in the Manueline style were sculpted in Ança stone by Diogo Pieres the Younger.
