Its location opposite the border meant it was attacked several times by the troops of Philip IV of Spain during the War of Independence in the 17C. Now restored it has a castellated feudal keep in the middle of a rectangular small surrounding wall with bastions and look-out turrets. From the surrounding path, you can admire the Lima valley and the wild mountain surroundings of Portugal and Galicia.
