From the upper end of this formal, landscaped park, crowning Avenida da Liberdade, is a magnificent perspective view of the lower town and the Tagus, flanked on either side by the São Jorge castle and Bairro Alto hills. The wooden shutters of the Cold Greenhouse (Estufa fria) protect the many exotic plants growing on the banks of the fishponds from the summer heat and winter cold.
