This fine 18C building, once a silk factory, has been renovated in a sober, elegant manner by the architect, Sommer Ribeiro. Maria Helena Vieira da Silva (1908-1992), who lived a great part of her life in Paris with the Hungarian artist, Arpad Szenes, is Portugal's most famous 20C artist. The museum displays a small collection of exhibits, bequeathed by the artists, in addition to works donated by collectors and institutions.
