Roman remains were discovered on this site in 1991 in the basement of the Banco Comercial Português. The site provides a comprehensive history of the Baixa district from the 7C onwards. Visitors can see the superpositioning of the various constructions from the Pombaline period down to the phreatic layer. The site was used as a pottery workshop, a necropolis and then as a harbour activity area. Note the 3C mosaic, an oven dating from the Moorish period and a part of the Pombaline anti-seismic structure.
