This street has preserved the charm of its past with old whitewashed houses (16C and 17C) whose facades are flanked by external staircases and balconies with wrought iron grills. All the monuments look over this street which ends at the castle.

2 Old Courthouse

The old courthouse is located on the left, in the rua Direita. Notice inside an interesting fresco depicting the honest Judge and the dishonest Judge (who carries a curved stick) and, above, a Christ in majesty with his arms raised.

3 Parish Church

This church contains the marble 14C tomb of Tomas Martins, on which the figures from a funeral cortege are sculpted. You will recognise monks, knights preceded by a priest and, at the foot, a falconry hunting scene.

Rebuilt by King Dinis in the 13C, a second surrounding wall was built in the 17C embellished with bastions. From the surrounding path the panoramic view is magnificent over the countryside Alentejo planted with olive trees and cork oaks.
