Of the original castle, only a double surrounding crenellated oval wall flanked by many towers remains. On the north corner sit the church and the keep. From the top of the ramparts there is a panoramic view over the Mondego valley with huge paddy fields, some fields of maize and poplar groves. The Serra de Lousã stands out on the horizon to the south-east.
