Palmela
: Michelin's recommendations
This picturesque town itself is built on terraces on the North slope of the Serra da Arrabica, at the foot of a hill topped by a large castle which, in 1423, became the headquarters of the Order of Saint James. The bishop of Evora, Dom Garcia Meneses, who plotted against the order, was imprisoned there in a cell situated beneath the keep.
