Visit the Santa Maria de Belem historical parish. See monuments such as the gothic-style Belem Tower, a defense tower built in the sixteenth century, and the modern Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a monument dedicated to Portuguese maritime discoveries. Walk through the Alfama district, the oldest area of the city, housing many of the buildings that have stood in the city for hundreds of years, including the Castle of Lisbon. End the tour in the Baixa-Rossio, the center of the city, and Avenida da Liberdade for shopping or a bite to eat. Return to Oporto by train in the evening, with drop-off service from the railway station to your hotel.
