Ribeira Brava : Michelin's recommendations

This small town, whose name means "wild river" is built at the mouth of a river with the same name between two mountains planted with bananas and other crops. A shady avenue runs parallel to the beach and opens on to a wharf. The tower, a relic from a 17C fort, testifies to an era troubled by pirate attacks. At the centre of the small town, in a cobbled square, stands a small 16C church, flanked by a belfry whose roof is covered with azeulejos.
