Vila Franca de Xira : Michelin's recommendations
This industrial city, situated on the right bank at the beginning of the Tagus estuary, is renowned for its festivities and its bull races. The town is lively, particularly in July during the festival of Colete encarnada (the "red coat" of the campinos). You can see the picturesque caminos processions and in particular the bull runs, where the bulls are let loose in the town. The arenas, constructed in 1901, are located at the south end of the town and house the ethnography museum.
