Situated at the mouth of the river Ave, Villa do Condo, the birthplace of the poet Régio, is a seaside town, an active port and an industrial centre . As the saying goes "here, where there are nets, there is lace" and Vila do Condo is equally renowned for its bobbin-lace and its festivals. The festival of Saint John is an occasion for spectacular processions including that of the mordormas, who put on magnificent jewellery, and that of the rendilheras (lacemakers) who dress in regional attire.
