Viseu : Michelin's recommendations
Viseu has developed on the bank of the Pavia, in a wooded region on a slight slope, where you will see the famous Dão vineyard. This is an important agricultural crafted centre whose sweets (bolos de amor, papos de anjo, travesseiros de ovos moles) are enjoyed by many. Like Lisbon, the town was home to a flourishing painting school in the 16C headed by two masters, Vasco Fernandes and Gaspar Vaz, who were themselves influenced by Flemish artists such as Van Eyck and Quentin Metsys.
