This region of varied landscapes remains unspoilt; a mix of duned beaches and inlets at the foot of high cliffs battered by foaming white surf, little fishing harbours like Zambujeira do Mar and Porto das Barcas with colourful boats, green fields of grazing sheep, venerable cork-oak forests, old houses painted blue and white, and fortresses recalling the historical conflicts between Moors and Christians. From Cape Sardão there is a fine view over the coast and ocean.
