Bras-Panon
: Michelin's recommendations
The true “capital” of vanilla, Bras-Panon is known for its cooperative founded in 1969, as well as its sugarcane production and red-tailed goby fishing at the mouth of the neighbouring river. The town owes its name to an accident that befell Joseph Panon in 1736. A rich landowner from the area, he slipped and fell into an affluent of the Rivière des Roches while marking the boundary of his property. Afterwards it became known as the “Bras Panon” (Panon branch) in memory of his fall.
