Piton-Sainte-Rose : Michelin's recommendations

You couldn’t possibly forget that Piton-Sainte-Rose is at the foot of the eastern slope of Piton de la Fournaise and that the volcano’s eruptions are a direct threat to it. April 1997 is a date that will go down in the history of the village, when it was damaged by lava flowing through its streets. Extraordinarily, the church of Notre-Dame-des Laves was spared and is an amazing sight amidst the hardened lava. The statue of the Virgin with a Parasol next to it also had a stormy fate!
