Le Barachois, a vast green seafront park, is a good place to start exploring Saint-Denis. Although the town’s military past is evidenced by the cannons facing out to sea here, nowadays this is a pleasant meeting place for locals and tourists - with a bowling pitch, swimming pool and sidewalk cafés.
